Grateful for wonderful clients.

When you’ve been writing for a long time, there’s a real danger of getting stuck in your voice. It’s easy to fall back on the same patterns and phrasing. One way I try to keep my writing fresh is by playing around with different genres, even if they’re not necessarily related to my client work. I just completed a six-week play reading series where professional actors “performed” three short plays I wrote. It’s another way to hone storytelling skills. Also, it was a blast. If anyone has a play they’ve written or are working on, message me. I’d love to hear about it.

The audio tour I wrote for the Knoxville Museum of Art just went live. The tour accompanies the museum’s flagship exhibition, “Higher Ground: A Century of the Visual Arts in East Tennessee,” celebrating the region’s rich and diverse visual culture. Available in English, Spanish, ASL and audio description.

Excited to share the revamped website I managed for my client, the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum, also known as the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Train Station. The copy and design overhaul makes it a friendlier, more inviting, and easier-to-navigate user experience and a better reflection of the museum’s mission to help visitors appreciate how history and rail technology impacted Long Island life. Thanks go to Web Precision for their development expertise and the museum’s passionate board of directors.

The rain held off and the crowds poured in for the 4th annual Playing on the Porch music fest, the event I spearhead for my town on behalf of the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce. PorchFest events have been going on around the country since 2007, but ours was Long Island’s first. We had a line-up of 34 bands/soloists performing on porches, driveways & front lawns all around town, a record-breaking number of sponsors and a digital tip jar for the high school scholarship fund. This is the ultimate team production. I’m grateful to the dozens of musicians and homeowners for giving the community an incredible gift and to my committee members on the Chamber for their great ideas, reality checks and get-it-done professionalism.

Bully for my client, the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum, for welcoming Theodore Roosevelt, portrayed by historian and impersonator Joe Wiegand. TR dropped by the historic presidential train station where the 26th president routinely commuted from the Summer White House at Sagamore Hill to New York City, Washington, DC and beyond and which now houses the railroad museum.

What does it take to have a wildly popular cocktail tutorial series? “Nerdy cocktail talk” and an approach that prioritizes quality over personality, according to Leandro DiMonriva, co-creator of the YouTube hit, “The Educated Barfly.” DiMonriva is the subject of my latest profile of “Movers & Shakers” for Barfly Mixology Gear.

Museums are welcoming visitors but still facing challenges. Fascinating to hear how institutions are adapting to a post-pandemic future at my first meeting as a member of the Museum Association of New York.
