As 2025 comes to a close, I’m grateful for a year marked by creative partnerships and a bit of risk-taking. Here are a few professional highlights:
Three of my historical plays debuted with performances at the Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab at Lincoln Center and at Polaris North in Midtown.
I was part of the team that successfully launched the first-of-its-kind Long Island History Hunt contest, a major initiative that brought together a dozen museums and historical societies to spark the public’s connection and engagement with local history.
I joined the team of the Borscht Belt Museum for its ambitious oral history project, helping to preserve first-hand stories of a dynamic cultural era.
I wrote about the life and work of artist Takuichi Fujii, whose life was upended when he and his family were incarcerated during World War II, alongside more than 120,000 people of Japanese descent. The project is currently in production.
I continued my Kill Your Darlings Writers Salon with three additional events across Long Island and Manhattan—creating a space for professional writers to share their work in a supportive space that fosters community.
Big thanks to all my colleagues and collaborators who inspired me.

This weekend, I took one for the team, dining on eel and Parmesan ice cream at a Colonial-style luncheon at the Ketcham Inn (Thomas Jefferson slept here). It was part of the awards ceremony for the Long Island History Hunt I worked on for Motion Media Entertainment on behalf of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. The grand prize winner visited a dozen designated historic sites from Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn to Montauk Point to take a selfie challenge. The winner–and nearly 50 other people who hit every site– traveled more than 250 miles round-trip by car and ferry to play.

Thrilled to be a sponsor of Saturday’s Playing on the Porch fest. More than 45 bands turned lawns, driveways and porches into mini concert stages all over Rockville Centre, Long Island, for this annual festival that raises money for local scholarships and shows what happens when community and business come together. The festival is especially meaning to me. I brought the idea to the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce in 2019 and organized it for the first few years. I’m proud the Chamber has continued this wonderful tradition ever since.

As a writer, I have immense gratitude for the people whose work helps elevate mine whether it’s a producer, audio engineer, editor or graphic designer. This weekend, it was an actor who performed a short period piece of mine in a monologue festival at the new Harvey Fierstein Theatre Lab at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Huge thanks to Erica Becker for her beautiful portrayal of the portrait Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun, who hitched her wagon to the wrong royal—Marie Antoinette.

My latest project: The Long Island History Hunt.
A dozen museums and historical societies, from Brooklyn to Montauk, are teaming up to offer an epic adventure to places where spies, patriots and presidents helped shaped local history. At each designated site, visitors are invited to take a selfie challenge. Those who complete a challenge at all 12 sites will earn the title of Revolutionary Trailblazer and be entered into the grand prize drawing that includes $500 and a bunch of other cool prizes. The Long Island History Hunt is sponsored by the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation in partnership with New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

I’m working with the Borscht Belt Museum on its oral history project, an initiative to collect and preserve first-hand accounts of the stories and experiences that made up Catskills culture. Got a story to share about the hotels, bungalow colonies, entertainment, “such small portions” and dirty dancing summer flings? Book a one-on-one interview session at the museum in Ellenville, NY, or a remote video session. I might even be the one to interview you.

Twenty years ago this week, I launched my freelance writing business with an assignment in Miami to write about the city’s art scene. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you to everyone I’ve worked with, learned from, brainstormed with, who inspired me and who challenged me in the best possible way.

A couple of times a year, I organize something called the “Kill Your Darlings Writers Salon.” It’s kind of an open mic event where some combination of journalists, scriptwriters, copywriters and speech writers share their work on a passion project—a creative piece that gets personal attention after all the deadlines have been met. It might be an excerpt from a book in progress, play, monologue or personal essay. Almost anything goes. For folks like us who are more at home behind a keyboard, standing in front of a room full of seriously talented writers is a true out-of-the-comfort-zone moment. I’m grateful to my fearless colleagues who show up, share boldly and help create such a supportive space.

Is there a better setting to get folks fired up to write their personal histories than a historic home? Thank you to the Phillips House Museum for inviting me to speak about Turning Memories into Memoir. It was awesome to get feedback like this: “Your presentation was so inspiring. I literally had dreams about how to revise my own storytelling format!”
